They will be loaded with gear that has no usefulness in an urban landscape. When packing your urban bug out bag make sure you carefully consider each item for its utility in an urban survival situation. Here is some urban-specific gear you must add to your urban survival kit: multi-tool: a good multi-tool will ensure you have everything you need for urban survival. These tools often have screwdrivers, a saw, scissors, pliers, a can opener, rulers, a bottle opener, and more.

Get To Know Your Area Well and Practice

Defense in the city will likely be a short-range engagement. For urban areas, i recommend a good pump-action 12-gauge shotgun and a handgun. Or a pistol caliber carbine and a handgug that uses interchangeable ammo and magazine like the glock 17 or 19 and the ruger pc 9 carbine. The mossberg 500/590 or remington 870 are both excellent choices if you opt for a shotgun. For versatility put back a variety of shot-shell loads as well as buckshot and rifled slugs. Handguns should be at least. 38 caliber or above. I like both revolvers and semi-automatic handguns, in skilled hands both can be effective.

To Trust Others or Not

While a bug out bags, edc kits, get home bags etc are very personalized and we don’t recommend buying them premade. Personal survival kits or psk’s are a bit different. There are only so many choices and sizes of items that can fit in a standard sized tin. For that reason we have developed a wilderness and urban psk containing the items we would want in a kit. Perhaps they will fill your needs as well. A few things set our psk’s apart from many others. First off all the items in our kits are quality. Our kits may cost a bit more than some but do you really want to trust your life to a cheap kit made from cheap materials? secondly unlike the sardine style tins our tins can be opened to add, subtract and use.

Are these the end all, be all of urban survival skills? not by a long shot. As i mentioned earlier, other sites run through 50 or more skills you should know. I say start small with the learning process. Take it in bite sized chunks. There are so many variables to surviving, the idea itself can feel overwhelming. Like i said, 12 skills might be too big to start with. My intent is to at least get you thinking about your skill set, and considering how you might survive an urban upheaval.
