Urban Survival Kit List

The list isn’t by far exhaustive but it should give you some fantastic ideas on what to do when shtf if you’re trapped in a town or a city. Note: i’ve done my best to only include tips that are relevant to urban scenarios that are not always mentioned in general/rural survival articles. features

When planning a bug-out operation in an urban environment, there are a few items you may want to add to your standard bug-out bag checklist to give you more options: gas masks , dust masks , tactical leather gloves , and eye protection because the city is a nasty and dangerous place. Roadmaps and topographical maps for the applicable city for route planning and navigation. Binoculars for early threat detection and to limit unnecessary movement. Sillcock key for accessing external taps (if the water is still on). Escape kit for defeating locks without destruction (if you have the skills). Check out the bogota kit from serepick.

Those all-in-one knives they sell at the big-box store may seem like a good idea, with their partially serrated blades and survival kits tucked inside the handle. But wait — if you can store something inside the grip, that means the entire back half of the knife is hollow. How long do you think it would hold up if you needed to clear brush or pry open a can of beans? no, what you should be looking for is a single piece of high-quality steel, stretching from the tip of the blade to the base of the pommel. We cover a few of the well-known metals below , but you must be able to identify the type of steel used in your knife.

It’s All Up to You

Can you pull up your body weight with your arms? whether you’re climbing out a window to escape a burning house, climbing up a tree to navigate, climbing to a roof to escape rising flood waters or just getting over a wall to get away from an attacking dog, having the strength and dexterity to climb is a useful survival skill. situation

Some of the links you’ll find here are affiliate links, which means we might earn a small commission if you make a purchase through them. But don’t worry! you won’t pay a single penny more! as my plans include bugging out in case of shtf to my bol (bug out location), most of the time and effort is spent on preparing that part, but being prepper in apartment is an interesting topic too. Some of us do not have other options, so they are planning to be where they are when shtf-in apartment, and survive. Other good reason to talk about apartment prepping is simply because all of our plans may vanish (plans to bug out to our bol) so we could be simply forced to stay where we are when the system collapses.

Estimated reading time: 8 minutes besides our intelligence and having opposing thumbs, what sets us humans apart from the animal kingdom is that we can use tools. I’m not just talking about a hammer and screwdriver here; pretty much everything we use to perform everyday tasks can be considered a tool, from the refrigerator we open to get milk, to the car we drive to get to work. There’s just one problem with all these tools… they can break. Some tools seem like they’re designed to break so that you have to buy another, while others look like they’re built to last forever, but break anyway.

Lakes, Rivers, Ponds, and Fountains

A standard scenario following many disasters is a local loss of electric power. The result is that well pumps don’t operate and even the large, industrial pumps used to refill municipal water towers can’t refill the water tanks. A more devastating result is when natural water sources like ponds, lakes, and rivers become saturated with wastewater, debris, chemicals, and petroleum products from swamped cars. There’s even the possibility of heavy metal contamination from industrial debris in local waterways. The end result falls in the category of water everywhere and not a drop to drink. In those instances, the most complex filtration and purification can be challenging and it’s all complicated by scores of desperate and thirsty people competing for limited resources.

There is one last thing that i wanted to mention about urban preparedness. If you have inside knowledge or you are just paying attention to the warning signs all around us, the best thing that you can do before shtf is to leave the city. Whether to stay or go is a highly personal and difficult choice to make. However, when the shtf is in a large city things can deteriorate quickly, leaving you boxed in with dwindling resources and unpredictable situations. Thanks for reading and stay prepared. A good survival knife is worth its weight in gold and finding the right one shouldn’t be a decision that’s taken lightly. Unfortunately, the internet has made it even harder on preppers and preparedness minded people to find the right information. In fact, a majority of the reviews or web pages you will find promoting the so-called best survival knives are nothing more than cleverly crafted sales pages written by people who have zero experience with survival, and even less experience with the knives they are talking about.
